Extra-illustrated volume containing ten manuscripts dealing with the colonial Pennsylvania. With engraved portraits of William Penn, by W.G. Armostrong (1877) and George II from Rapin's History of England (J. & J. Gundeee, Albion Press, London 1815). Autograph letter from William Penn to Joseph Stennet informing that "tomorrow the Lord permitting I intend to to be at John Hicks, with half a dozen friends & no more besides the man of the hous, where I shall give a reasonable and scripturall account of my self." [1696 (?)], Sept. 3 Communications and circulars from British authorities to the Govenor of Pennsylvania: 1) letter from the Commissioners of Customs informing about the order of appointment of naval officers to the American colonies (1733, June 9, HM 25328); 2) resolution of the Privy Council ordering to take measures to stop " the rioting and murders on the Maryland-Pennsylvania borders" (1737, Aug. 18, HM 25329); 4) George II's Instructions on raising the troops for the "Expedition against the Territories of the Catholick King in the West Indies" (1740, Apr. 2, HM 25336); 5) circular from Sir Thomas Robinson regarding the appointment of Sir William Shirely as the commander-in-chief (1755, Aug. 28, HM 25335); 6) circular from the President of the Board of Trade regarding the appointment of John Campbell, the 4th Earl of Loudoun to the post of "Captain General of His Majesty's Forces in North America," (1756, May 11, HM 25330); 7) letter from John Pownall, the Secretary of the Board of Trade on the death of George II (1760, Oct. 29, HM 25331); 8) circular letter from Lord Shelburne condemning the Paxton Boys and "the most unprovoked Violences & Murthers" that "have been lately committed on the Indians, under the Protection of His Majesty" (1766, Sept. 13, HM 25332); 8) circular from Earl of Hillsborogh regarding the complaints from Sir William Johnson and the Iroquois (1770, Nov. 15, HM 25333); and 9) appointment of John Penn "to be Deputy or Lieutenant Governor fo the Province of Pensilvania" (1773, June 30, HM 25334).
